About Spades

Spades HD trades the classic water-sort tube-stacking for card-suit organization, building trick-taking puzzles with a partner instead of solo pouring. The divergence is in the win condition: water sort succeeds when every tube holds a single color, while Spades wins by predicting exactly how many tricks you and your partner will take, then matching that bid with precise play. You're not sorting colors into tubes—you're sorting cards into suit stacks before arranging those stacks into tricks, all while balancing an AI teammate's hand against opponents. The blind nil option adds high-risk sorting: bid zero tricks without looking at your cards, turning the hand into a pure deduction puzzle about what others hold.

Sorting through your hand in Spades HD is all about organizing your cards into the right bids and plays. You’ll strategically arrange your suit stacks, then work with an AI partner to win tricks and avoid going nil. The satisfying click of matching your bid, plus bonus rounds for tied scores, makes every well-planned move feel like a puzzle solved. It’s a calm, addictive challenge for anyone who loves order.

How to Play Spades

  1. Click any card to select it, then click the center of the table to play it as the lead card.
  2. Follow suit if possible—play a card of the same suit as the lead card; if you have none, you may discard any card (including spades once they are broken).
  3. Win a trick by playing the highest card of the lead suit, or by playing a spade if spades were broken or led.
  4. After all 13 tricks, compare your team's actual tricks to your combined bid to score: 10 points per bid trick plus 1 point for each overtrick (called bags), but avoid accumulating 10 bags or you lose 100 points.
  5. Use the Pass and Double buttons (shown on the right side of the screen) during bidding to adjust your contract before the hand begins.
  6. Tap the Tutorial button on the home screen to learn blind nil, bidding rules, and bonus round mechanics interactively.

Tips & Strategies

  • Count your spades and high cards in each suit during bidding—bid at least one trick per ace or king you hold.
  • When you have a long suit (5+ cards), lead it early to force opponents to follow suit and potentially discard spades.
  • If your partner bids nil, never win a trick if you suspect they might be forced to play a spade—cover their weakness.
  • Avoid accumulating 10 bags by underbidding slightly if you frequently take extra tricks—one overtrick per hand is safe.
  • Use blind nil when your hand is weak and your partner is a strong bidder—the bonus points offset the risk.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if spades are broken?

Spades are broken once a player cannot follow suit and plays a spade. Until then, spades cannot be led. The interface shows a 'Spades Broken' indicator on the table.

What happens if I bid nil and win a trick?

Your team loses 100 points immediately, even if your partner covered your nil. Avoid winning any trick when you bid nil—always play your lowest card of the led suit.

Can I double my bid?

Yes, click the Double button during your turn in the bidding phase. Doubling increases your team's potential score but also the penalty if you fail to meet the doubled bid.

Why did a bonus round start?

Bonus rounds occur when both teams have the same total score after 13 hands. The game continues with full hands until one team wins a hand outright.

What does the Pass button do?

Passing skips your chance to double your bid but still allows you to bid normally. Use it if you are unsure about your hand strength or want to avoid the risk of doubling.
